Germany has an especial responsibility for the European beech. When Thuringia established the 13th German national park "Hainich", they proclaimed their recognition of this international responsibility and ensured a momentous national heritage. With its primeval forest, the Hainich National Park offers excellent prerequisites for researching dynamic processes in Central European deciduous woodlands. For both domestic and foreign experts Hainich is an important excursion and research site, since its natural vegetation represents forest stocking typical to Central Europe. With the scope of environmental education, the National Park Administration aspires to assuring that visitors tangibly experience the forest in a variety of ways.
