To meet the requirements of economically sustainable, efficient and ecologically compatible forest management, among other things, specialized personnel must be optimaly employed. One such efficiency instrument in the sector of highly-mechanized timber harvesting was to implement partially independent group labor. In 1997, the Forest District of Gehren initiated such a project at their machine park. Based on their positive experience, this model will be extended state-wide to all forest labor. In particualr, the employees' motivation, sense of responsibility and creativity has been positively developed, which finds expression in increased performance and improved commercial yield.
