Abstract
The green Triangle of South West Australia (Perth - Albany - Augusta) forms a separate botanical province. The "Southwestern Forest province" is humid (rainfall 750-1400 mm), and forests are dominant here as climax communities. This region is the main area of the famous Western Australian endemic flora. Some endemic tree species of the province are Karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor), Jarrah (E. marginata), Red Tingle (E. jacksonii), Yellow Tingle (E. guilfoylei), Tuart (E. gomphocephala), Wandoo (E. wandoo), Marri (Corymbia (= Eucalyptus) calophylla), Casuarinaceae as Allocasuarina decussata and Allocasuarina fraserana, some Acacias, Banksias and Grass Trees (Xanthorrhoea). The magnificent "Old Growth Forests" of Karri, Jarrah, Red Tingle and Marri are protected in National Parks. All native forests outside conservation reserves are managed for multiple uses to sustain forest values in the long term. This paper describes changes in silvicultural practices in connection with ecological characteristics of the tree species and changing technical and economic conditions.
