With the series of articles "Denkanstöße" (thought impetus) we wish to provide guidelines on reforestation, focusing on future timber utilization and accumulated scientific knowledge. The aim is to optimize reforestation operations and expenditures. During the past 40 years, the market demand for numerous assortments has decreased so drastically that the financial yield for commercial forestry is of no importance. The objective of reforestation and stand cultivation must be geared towards not even producing these non-marketable assortments. This article presents the results of scientific behavioral research in regards to the jay's instinctual sowing of acorns, and outlines ways of making use of this characteristic in reforestation. Information is provided as to where one could expect natural oak regeneration via the jay to occur.
