Depending on different scientific or practical problems a big variety of methodes is in use for the evaluation of groundwater chemistry data. They reach from quite simple techniques for graphic documentation on one side to highly sophisticated geochemical/thermodynamical calculations on the other side. Especially for practical use a collection of such methods which are more frequently in use was compiled and documented together with an example for each method. Graphic techniques such as pie-charts, bar-charts and arrow- diagrams are used for the documentation of single components or for combinations of different components. Some types of special diagramms allow the demonstration of relationships between the main component of groundwater, others are specially useful for the description of groundwater- types. One chapter shows the possibilites for the application of the different statistical methods in groundwater chemistry. Geochemical example of frequency distributions, means, standard deviations, correlations and also multivariate techniques as cluster analysis, discriminant analysis and factor analysis are given together with critical reviews of the practical use. Different methods for the interpretation of geochemical time series are proposed together with computer techniques such as kriging for the preparation of geochemical maps. Geochamical/thermodynamical calculations lead from basic information susch as to determine activities, ion-paring and simple solubilities to the application of big computer programs such as WATEQ. Finally the use of standard personal computer software for solving groundwater quality problems is demonstrated.
