Heavy metal analyses in bird feathers show big differences between the several feathers of the plumage. Endogenic and exogenic causes of these differences are listed and discussed in detail. On example of a White-tailed Eagle (Haliaetus albicilla) the distribution of 11 metals in primaries and secondaries is shown and described in various parts of the single feather. A standardization of feather collection for biomonitoring is discussed.
