The most important features of Hungarian forestry are compared to those of the EU, and the silvicultural conditions and structure of forest ownership are explained. Furthermore, the responsibilities and organization of the public forest service are presented. Despite unfavorable conditions in the past few years, the Hungarian forest industry was able to model its work upon European sustainability criteria and thereby improved its forests. Under the new situation, they are striving for biologically stable and simultaneously profitable forestry, while at the same time, aiming to meet ecological and market requirements.
