The cooperation beween Germany, Austria and Switzerland ("DACH") with the measuring sites Hohenpeißenberg (986 m), Zugspitze (2963 m), Sonnblick (3106 m) and Jungfraujoch (3580 m) is a contribution to the GAW Programme of the WMO with the aim to analyze the representativity of the air chemistry data by special "filtering" techniques. In the first phase of the project, station specific filters have been worked out to discriminate the air affected by the boundary layer from the air free from such impacts (with data of high representativity). Trajectory analysis, the vertical temperature gradient of the valley atmosphere and the behaviour of the air chemistry data are used to study the representativity of the air quality data. In the future, filtering techniques will be objectivized and harmonized to study trends in the air quality of the alpine region.
