The market price of wood in our country is largely affected by the price of imported logs occupying 2/3 of wood supply. The decline of the price of logs in recent years has brought about the depreciation of the price of stumpage while the production cost of logs is developing a tendency to increase, because wages or material cost are rising constantly. Therefore, the profitability of forestry decreases every year and it is of urgent necessity for a forestry household to conserve the labor in silvicultural procedure. On the other hand, the national expectation to various functions of a forest such as function for preservation of the environment or the like urges forestry having pursuited profitability to the development of new forest work and the conversion of a management policy.
