Abstract
Low productivity and economic efficiency, waste of wood, poor road networks, high accident rates, environmental and financial problems are seen as the key issues facing many countries harvesting forests from steep terrain in Asia. Solutions identified were training, improved planning, application of appropriate technology, adoption of an integrated systems approach, and assistance from developed countries.
