- AbstractPoint process is a stochastic process, which can be used as a model for generating spatial patterns of trees in a forest. In a presented paper, we describe some ways of simulation and statistical exploration of spatial point processes. We only focus to techniques based on counting of points (trees) in quadrates (units of space). These techniques are demonstrated on some experimental plot using the so-called mixed Poisson process as a model of an underlying point process. Ecological interpretation of the parameters of a mixed Poisson point process in terms of indices of aggregation is also given.
