Recent developments in forestry have created more room for landscape ecological considerations. Forming a new working body, dealing with landscape ecology, requires also some answers regarding potential mutual benefits both fields can expect. Attention is drawn to the similarities between forest and landscape as ecological and management systems and to the general parallels between forestry and landscape ecology. Landscape ecology could contribute to development of new forest management approaches in return it could be enriched and strenghtened by some traditional philosophies related to forest management that are applicable in management of other natural resources - including landscape - as well.
