Mainly due to its simplicity the groundwater recharge emanating from infiltrating precipitation was calculated by the simple bucket modell for the area of the Kremser Bucht in Lower Austria. the high water-holding capacity of the soils, the low precipitation values and the for a high groundwater replenishment unfavourable distribution of the precipitation result in very low groundwater recharage values. An areal weighted groundwater recharge rate of 1,6 mm/a resprectively of 0,051 1/s km¬ was calculated.
