Recent development of regeneration techniques for beech forests in Normandy proceeded through the following steps: _ substantial increase in volumes garvested through seed felling, which is currently carried out in two or three stages in view of the considerable standing volumes; _ improvement in the use of phytocides, primarily for control of bramble and bracken; _ optimized soil preparation: ploughing prior to seed fall, and subsequent harrowing. Beating-up is systematically done using sessile oak on suitable sites.
