It is now important to preserve the natural foundation of life and to secure greater recreation areas in the Alps, which are as close to nature as possible. With regard to the serious injury to our environment nature needs our help. The avalanche barriers made of steel, fabricated by Voest-Alpine AG, Austria, are primary to prevent the breaking up of avlanches at the starting point, and consist mainly of "retaining and drifting structures", as permanent protection in the mountains. Each structure has, dependent of the manner of the foundation, various anchorage constructions and is built in an unit - composed system for snow thickness D 3,1 to 4,0 m.
