This paper presents the state of forst accessibility, using case studies taken from the State Forest Administration of Lower Saxony in example. In particular, the most recent scientific data on technical properties and ecological impacts of the various road-construction materials are detailed. Based on a cost analysis for road maintenance, new approaches and concepts are developed.
