In the shallow water area behind the Fluhmühle barrage in only a few years a system of bars and channels has developed. Three types of channels can be discerned: the old deep channel of the meandering river, recently formed channels along the inner rim of the old meanders, and a conspicuous 'flat meander channel' which developed from upstream to downstram. Channel formation in this area is a consequence of episodically occurring extremely high floods. The development of a type profile demonstrates, that erosion and accumulation during extemely high floods both follow rules different from those of 'normal' high floods.
