Abstract
Modern society has different and multiple wishes in relation to forest, which are rapidly increasing. Private forest owners are obliged to manage their forests properly, to guarantee its utilization to maintain the protection and recreation functions of forest, according to the legal frame. With an average forest area of 12 hectare per owner, unfavourable site conditions and stand structures, it is often impossible to finance a proper forestry only by the forest products. Financial sound forestry is especially questioned, when additional goals are claimed by the society. Private interest should not be substituted by social interests. Only with a sufficient, goal-directed public-promotion, intensive forest-consulting, the development of additional market-strategies for the provision and sale of forest products and assisting legal prescriptions private forestry has the chance to fulfil all requirements with an adapted management. With the help of forest certification the different social ideas and wishes concerning special forest functions can probably be de-emotionalized and balanced.
