The ten-year effect of thinnings was investigated, as exerted on the development of volume production (in dry matter) of pure and mixed stands of red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and black walnut (Juglans nigra L.). Crown thinnings with positive selection and time interval of five years influenced to the highest degree volume production in the pure black walnut stand, and volume production in the mixed red oak and black walnut stand with the higher proportion of red oak.
