A brief synthesis of major hypotheses and results from the Solling roof experiments is given. The results illustrate ecosystem responses to the experimental manipulations on different temporal scales ("cascaded" responses). The synopsos shows that changes in the ecosystem input fluxes (nitrogen, acidity, water) do have profound effects in the system.
