Protozoa and nematodes are important groups of soil microfauna modifying mineralization and nutrient cycling processes. Quantitative and qualitative chenges of the precipitation in a spruce stand significantly affected the soil microfauna. Testate amoebae and soil nematode densities changed markedly depending on changing soil moisture conditions in a drying/rewetting treatment. A clean (deacidified) rain treatment caused a shift in both, testate amoebae and nematode communities. Fungal feeding taxa became more dominant, while there was no effect on microfaunal densities.
