An analysis of the present hydrological situation of the riparian forest in the Prater area shows quite clearly that the decrease in vegetation is due to the sinking of the ground-water level and thus to the water level of the Danube river which has kept getting lower and lower over the years. A number of measurements and examinations of the soil and of the groundwater situation have been and will be carried out. These findings serve as a basis for measures designed to revitalize this riparian forest and to ensure the required dynamics of the ground-water balance.
