Abstract
In 1991 a pollution-related lichen mapping was carried out on three transects of the Achenkirch area (Achenkirch - Christlumkopf; Schulterberg; Muehleggerkoepfl). It turned out that areas near the valley (approx. 830m - 1,000m a.s.l.) were subject to permanent moderate pollution (Zone 3). Areas between approx. 1,000m a.s.l. were only slightly affected (Zone 2), and, depending on the location, those between 1,400m and 1,500m a.s.l. were largely unaffected (Zone 1). Lichen zones 4 and 5 (heavily or very heavily polluted) were not found. Compared to mapping results from Central Alpine valleys, pollution of the investigation area extended by approx. 200m - 300m farther upwards. For each sample plot the results of the lichen mapping are described on the basis of the differences observed in the lichens of the individual zones. As a supplemantary piece of information, a list of the epiphytic lichen species and lichen communities found in the course of the investigations will be added.
