The epidemic occurrence of bark beetles in Lech/Arlberg (Vorarlberg) was the reason for investigations about Scolytidae (Coleoptera) at higher altitudes. 15 different species were found and 5 of them, Ips typographus, Ips amitinus, Pityogenes chalcographus, Pityogenes conjunctus and Dendroctonus micans are thought to be very important. The more unknown bark beetle Pityogenes conjunctus is introduced by its biological and epidemiological characteristics und differentiated from its close relative, Pityogenes bistridentatus.
