As a consequence of a sudden fall of temperature in early december 1991 nearly all larches of the affected area, irrespective of age and height show characteristical symptoms of frost damage on buds and in cambial tissue of trunks and branches. Preceding and actually attack of Adelgidae additionally reduce the frost-hardiness of the trees.
