Discoloration of needles due to herbicides used within plantations or in their neighbourhood is observed in an increasing number of cases and causes economic losses in Christmas-tree-plantations. Not seldom such side effects occur in plantations established in former maize - fields, where Atrazin - compounds where applied over many years; it is assumed, that the roots of conifers then reach contaminated soil layers. In addition, acute herbicide effects happen due to applications too (as: too high dosage) or by drift from neighbouring areas.
