Abstract
The stratification of Norway maple seeds was carried out in the presence of 50 mM spermine and 50 mM-hydroxyethylohydrazine in comparison to standard water stratification. Hydroxyethylohydrazine and spermine accelerate dormancy breaking and increase the percentage of germinating seeds. The effect of hydroxyethylohydrazine is stronger. The presence of these two polyamines influenced the protein biosynthesis. The detailed study of the effect of polyamines on protein synthesis was done by analysis of the biological activity of elongation binding factor 1 (EF1). It is concluded that spermine stimulates (up to 50%) EF1 activity and hydroxyethylohydrazine does not significantly change the activity of the EF1 factor. The comparison was done in relation to the water stratification conditions.
