Abstract
The study deals with the growth, the development and the production capacity of spruce forest stands in the sites of the most important subasociations of Abieti-Fagetum dinaricum. A comparison of the wood production capacity for the spruce, the fir and the beech tree, which are the main tree species in the fir-beech natural sites of the high karst, has been carried out. The study deals with the ecologic niche of the spruce tree in the fir-beech natural sites of the high karst. It presents the effects the spruce has on the forest stability, soil formation processes and on the composition and quantity of low vegetation.
