  • Abstract
To be efficient and economical, bulk vegetative propagation basically depends on the largest number of rooted cuttings per stock plant (multiplication rate) it is possible to obtain. A forcing method of hybrid larch stock plants under greenhouse conditions has been described. After 1 growing season, stock plant height reached 1m on average, ie between 0.9- 1.1m according to seed sources. Enhancement of branching by top pruning and/or BAP foliar spray (benzyl-amino-purine), production of micro-cuttings (3-4cm in length), and additional propagation with softwood cuttings have been tested in order to improve the multiplication rate. The best multiplication rate was obtained with micro-cutting: between 109-219 according to seed sources. With conventional cuttings (6-8cm in length), it reached 60, to which 33 plants could be added if further softwood propagation was carried out. For all the parameters evaluated, a high clonal variability was observed, resulting in a genetic modification of the vegetatively propagated "bulk" variety.
