Due to an increasing popularity of pioneer trees in forestry practice, the silvicultural importance and treatment of aspen must also be discussed. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the aspen sporadically found in almost any mixed-tree stand with nutrient-rich soils. Th4e aspen is therefore of interest and of ecological benefit. However, this paper illustrates that there is no need of increasing its percentage of stocking (0,35%), neither from a silvicultural nor timber market point of view.
