The "Mittelwald" (composite forest) is a historical way of forestry, which combines the production of firewood and timber. Both assortments do not correspond to today's demands on industrial- or better timber. In Niedersachsen exists a program, which demands to reintroduce this economy on 2000 hectares. The reasons are historical demands (museum) and aims of natural protection. The forestry office Liebenburg started a "Mittelwald" program on 230 hectares in 1986 and 1990. The article reports about the experience with the pupblic, the administrations and specially the sylvicultural realization.
