Apart from improving the quality of young stands, regulating the ratio of mixture of different tree species causes high efforts in tending. Success of such silvicultural treatments depends mainly on growth dynamics and competitive behaviour between different tree species. Three important factors influencing the dynamics of growth are explained by examples and interpreted from an ecological point of view.
