Main results of Miscanthus research experiments carried out over seven years at the Bavarian Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitshoechheim (near Wuerzburg) are presented. The paper informs about yield production, suitability of different cultivars at different agricultural sites and crop husbandry methods. The best cultivars gained dry matter yields of 20-25 t/ha at good sites. Higher yields can only be produced with irrigation or by harvesting in late autumn or early winter. Miscanthus showed a high potential as a raw material for industrial als well as for energetic utilization. The economic value is unclarified with no volume market yet established but with prospectively good chances in future.
