A material of 678 observations was used to develop a Scots pine stand volume function for western Norway. Basal area and Lorey's mean height were used as the only independent variables. A multiplicative model was found to be most suitable. R2 was 0.996 and root mean square error was 2.3%. The regression fitted all parts of the material very well. Testing by means of an independent data set, gave satisfactory estimates, but the recommendedn function may overestimate the stand volume of pine forest in coastal districts.
