The extend of the damage increases also the necessity of different methods in forests the determination of the actual health status of the forest stand. In Czechoslovakia we use a rapid, simple, but sufficiently exact method of evaluation of forest stands as a whole. It is based on the regular changes of the structure of a damaged forest stand. Simultaneously with the increase of the damage the share of severely damagd trees is increased and the share of healthy trees is reduced. These changes are expressed by statistically highly significant relationships. Relations between the average degree of the damage of forest stand and the share of severely damaged trees have been so far prepared for Norway spruce and Scotch pine.
