Abstract
Exudate flavonoids are accumulated on the leaf and stem surfaces of many flowering plants and on fronds of certain ferns. They are encountered in particular in plants living in arid semiarid areas, but also in Mediterranean and Alpine regions. By their various chemo-ecological functions they complement the structural and physiological protection mechanisms of these plants. Due to high structural diversity exudate flavonoids are qualified chemotaxonomic markers.
