  • Abstract
The paper contains results of studies on the growth and biological structure of 20-year-old oak thickets in conditions existing after clear cutting, shelter-wood cutting and strip and group cutting, performed experimentally at realisation of the transformation of a hornbeam-oak stand. The first results of the studies were published after 7 years of the duration of experiment, when the young generation of oak was in the stage of young plantation. Detailed analysis of valuatio elements and biological structure of thickets allows to state that the best condition of growth and development for oak were produced by clear cutting, worse ones by strip and group cutting and the worst ones by shelter-wood cutting. Obtained results are first of all effect of differences in the quality of light and precipitation accessible for the young generation in various conditions created by determined form of cutting. The studies confirmed the hypothesis, made after the first stage of studies, tha the transformation of hornbeam- oak or oak stands can be realized by application of the clear cutting, without the necessity of application of shelter-wood or strip and group cutting. The clear cutting ensures not only the best conditions of growth and development for oak, but it needs less labour consumption, is easier to be performed and lets apply full mechanization of cutting, regeneration and tending operations.
