  • Abstract
The hyphae of two blue-stain fungi (Ceratocystis coerulescens, Alternaria alternata) derived from mycelia of various ages were studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The hyphae walls consist of three layers. The colouring matter is deposited in the hyphae walls in the from of small globules during aging. The coloring matter was previously analyzed as melanins. There are certain differences of the melanin deposition in the walls of the two fungus species. Aging and melanin deposition cause a change of walls surfaces.
