Behind this programme ist the will to safeguard the exxential natural ressources and to avoid a development cooperation which is restricted to disaster fighting only. There are four foresters, each responsible for a productive forested area of one thousand hectares on the basis of a 10-years- management plan. Access to the forests is by means of a basic road system supplemented by cable systems. Any felling system may be applied as long as long as it correspondes to the management plan and largely encourages natural regeneration. The management of the forest enterprises applies commercial, profit-oriented principles. The aim of the IFDP pilote project is to find out the advantages and disadvantages of this form of organisation.
