We want to improve the protective and growthpromoting efficiency of the mycorrhizal fungus Paxillus involutus by cross-breedings and carefully directed selection. The basis of our experiments are some selected and proved strains of this species. We made a great number of cross-breedings and started an extensive screening for testing some pysiological characteristics of the mycelia. We tested the differences between the parents and the F1-generation successfully regarding the growth-rate. Other important aspects are the mycorrhization, tolerance against aluminium, heavy metals and the induction of environmental conditions.
