The work sheet fot the establishment of fertilizer trials, which had been prepared by the Section Yield Research of the German Forest Research Stations in 1954, is up-dated.Minimum standards are stipulated. Chief objekt of fertilizing trials is the increase in productivity, but ohter parameters, such as timber quality, fruiting, needle formation and fall, soil organisms, nutrient cycling, water balance should among others also be observed. The design should aim at maximum efficiency and be based on a sound concept as suitable biometrical techniques. Sites should have nutrient deficiency as chief limiting factor and their selection is discussed.
