The multiple tasks in field of forest reproductive material and reforestation techniques are carried out by the two operations of the Institution at Bindlach/Bayreuth for Northern Bavaria and Laufen for Southern Bavaria. Both operations run a seed extraction plant and a nursery. The operations organize collection of forest seeds, procure and store seeds for production and for gene conservation (genebank) and grow plants for the State Forest Service. The Institution carries out applied research and development and also training programs and counseling in all sectors of forest regeneration through its operational facilities. History and technical data of the two operations are given.
