Peculiarities of the distribution of Operophthera brumata were studied in tree crowns in Voronezh province plantations and their dependence on the lighting conditions and the weakening of the trees. Statistical analysis of the data show that insects concentrate in better lighted parts of the forest and on the weakened trees. Distribution of the winter moth at different development stages has aggregated character and can be well approximated by the model of the negative binomial. Obtained data are beneficial for works on the methods of winter survey on the moth.
