Austria is characterized by a rich variety of wetlands. The "Austrian Wetland Strategy" focuses on the goals, principles and strategies for the long-term conservation of these ecosystems. The following strategy was elaborate by the Austrian Federal States and the Ministry of Environment, Youth and Family Affairs in close co-operation with experts, NGOs and various governmental bodies.
