Abstract
This book is a comprehensive examination of the status of the major challenges for forest research and higher education in countries with economies in transition. As such, it is a basis for analysing the possibilities and appropriate mechanisms for incorporating research and education into the framework of forest policy development, in support of the overall development process in those countries. The content is intended to assist policy-makers, researchers, education authorities and other public and private stakeholders in the forestry sector in transition states and to help them identify potentially useful models and approaches of sustainable forestry development, while forearming them against possible pitfalls in policy development.
