The report "The State of Europe's Forests 2003" provides an overview of the status and development of sustainable forest management in Europe on the occasion of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, the "Living Forest Summit". The purpose of this report, jointly prepared by the MCPFE Liasion Unit Vienna and UNECE/FAO, is to provide the most recent, objective, quantified and comparable data about sustainable forest management in Europe. It should also provide an updated information source for decision makers and other stakeholders and should serve as a background document for new commitments.
