Methodology of Forest Insect and Disease Survey in Central Europe : Proceedings First Workshop of the IUFRO WP 7.03.10, April 21-24, 1998, Ustron - Jaszowiec (Poland) : Methodology of Forest Insect and Disease Survey in Central Europe
This book of proceedings is the first workshop of the new IUFRO Unit 7.03.10 "Methodology of forest pest and disease survey in Central Europe", held in Ustron - Jaszowiec, Poland, April 22-24, 1998. The following four sessions took place: 1. Methodology of forest pest and disease survey with reports from different countries. 2. Defoliators of the forest tree species in Europe. 3. Phytosanitary state and threats in Central European forests. 4. Recent problems with bark beetle populations in European countries. As stated in a preliminary meeting last year in Pisek, Czech Republik, conducting of forest pest survey and advisory service is a long standing activity within European forest research institutes and did not loose actuality in the past years. The new IUFRO working party is the first forum to exchange methods and techniques in European forest protection Europe-wide and a new platform where results from research and monitoring can be exchanged. Thirty-seven people from 13 different countries joined the workshop and presented 22 oral contributions and 16 posters. Also roundtable discussions and many personal contacts took place. An excursion guided us into spruce forests of the Silesian Beskid mountains, where phytosanitary strategies against bark beetles were discussed. In the future, similar workshops will take place every one to two years. New members are welcome, mainly forest insect and disease surveyors and scientists with monitoring programs.
