This work contains distribution maps of the butterflies (Rhopalocera) of Yugoslavia. Alltogether 243 species of Rhopalocera were mapped on 195 maps. All the data are recorded on maps with UTM 10 km squares. Only records since 1900 year are mapped. The nomenclature and arrangement of the species follows that of Higgins (1975) "The Classification of European Butterflies". There are a number of generic and specific name changes in the check list on the basis of contributions of Hemming (1967), Eliot (1973), Leraut (1980), Zhdanko (1983) and Kudrna (1986). Problematic taxons with areal overlopping and incomplete breeding isolation (with a high degree of hybrid sterility) Pieris (napi) bryoniae Huebner and P. (napi) balcana Lorkovic are treated as species because of their equal position in mapping. Some open questions has remained at territorially devided alopatric taxons (vicariantes) with no precise data on their distribution. Such an example is Euchloe ausonia graeca Staudinger - E. simplonia Boisduval, as well as Maculinea alcon D. und S. - M. rebeli Hirschke. Areal analyses and zoogeographical classification of Rhopalocera in Yugoslavia according to these distribution maps will be given as a separate work. Special thanks for his contribution I owe to academician Z. Lorkovic who worked out as a collaborator. Z. Lorkovic has made a definite revision for many locations of vicariant species Spialia, Euchloe, Lycaena (Palaeochrysophanus), Erebia and others in southwestern part of territory.
