Sexual attractans (E)-9-dodecen-1-yl acetate (E9-12:Ac) and (E)-11- tetradecen-1-yl acetate (E11-14:Ac) were tested at 21 localities in the High Tatra mountains, Czechoslovakia, in 1986 and 1987. The trials were carried out in areas of autochthonous and allochthonous occurrence of larch (Larix decidua Mill.), and in some mountain valleys where larch was absent. The aim of the investigation was to find out, on the basis of pheromone trap catches, whether the larch host race of Z. griseana occurs in the High Tatras. The catch rate (males) in both attractants E9-12:Ac and E11-14:Ac was 121 : 112 in the 1986 tests and 496 : 62 in the 1987 tests, respectiveley. The results indicate the presence of both the spruce and the larch host races, and conceivably their hybrid population. As well as Z. griseana another 21 species of Lepidoptera were captured, from which an affinity to the tested attractants can be assumed in 7 species.
