The main laws and decrees on forests, rivers and sylviculture issued by Medici and Lorena are reported and shortly described. The medicean legislation, caotic and paricularistic, contained mainly forest laws tending to the conservatin of the state monopoly on the economic activites of the Grand-duchy. The laws issued by Lorena, after the first Regency, show a very different view, giving wide spact to private enterprises and tending to the freeing from any state ingerence on forests. This reached its maximum during the principate of Pietro Leopoldo.
